Wordfast Translation Tool

This new translation tool works from within Microsoft Word 97, 2000 (Windows), or Word 98, 2001 (Macintosh).

Wordfast also allows you to translate Excel and PowerPoint files, as well as html files right from within Ms-Word. All formats (Translation memory and segmented file) are TMX and Trados compatible.

You can download a demo version, which is fully functional for 30 days and is only 230 K large. For more info, contact Yves Champollion, the creator of Wordfast.

UniSite

UniSite is an enabling technology for Web servers designed specifically for the creation and maintenance multilingual or multi-cultural Web sites. UniSite converts single language web site(s) to a centralized and remotely administrable multilingual site. It then provides the web developer an environment for translation and localization and optional publishing of the resulting HTML pages.

SDLX Translation Memory

The SDLX Translation Memory suite comprises the following set of easy-to-use translation tools:

SDL Convert extracts translatable text from a number of complex document formats into OpenTag. SDL Analyse identifies repetition and matches in files and Translation Memories. Results are detailed in a log file or can be imported into a spreadsheet. SDL Edit holds all the necessary functions for translation. It also applies the translation memory to a file and uses 'fuzzy matching' to translate similar phrases. SDL Align uses built-in heuristics to validate alignment and allow the creation and updating of Translation Memories.

SDL TMX imports and exports Translation Memories from other TM tools to and from the SDLX format. SDL Translate saves time by translating a batch of files using one or more Translation Memories. SDL Termbase is a multilingual terminology management system that is fully integrated with SDLX. The concept-oriented approach allows each concept to be represented in one or more languages.

Filters are available for HTML, RTF, MIF, TXT, RC and generic delimited formats.

New features of version 2.1 (to be released in January 2000) include:

Project Wizard an interactive tool designed to set up a new translation project; it allows you to select file types, languages and converts them in one go.

Plug and Play enables users to develop their own OpenTag filters.

Concordance searches for words or sentence fragments in the Translation Memory.

TRADOS TagEditor, the new add-on to Translator's Workbench for translating SGML/HTML; tagged (filtered) FrameMaker, Interleaf, and PageMaker files; or any other tagged file format..
    With TRADOS TagEditor's unique translator-friendly approach, you only see what you have to translate, so you're not distracted by the original mark-up of the document.
    TagEditor is a free companion to Translator's Workbench 2!
    Along with the launch of TagEditor, TRADOS has also released a new version of its free info CD. Besides including a technology preview version of TagEditor, it features:

  • the song "Flagman Ahead" that was released especially for the launch of TRADOS TagEditor
