Objective:

This course is designed to give you an in-depth exposure totranslation and related issues. It will have three major areas of focus: the translator, text linguistics, and technology.

Special note:

A general rule of thumb at BYU is to plan on 2 hours of homework time per hour of undergraduate class instruction. This means you will need an average of six hours each week for reading, assignments and write-ups, and review for quizzes.

Grading: There will be a short weekly quiz every Friday morning on the material covered since the previous quiz. The midterm and final will be closed-book, comprehensive exams. In addition, during the semester you will be working on a portfolio of translations, a diary of experiences learned, and occasional translation-related assignments.

Final grade calculation will be as follows:

Quizzes15%

Assignments, diary and portfolio50%

Midterm15%
